Congratulations to the boys for their effort at training and at the game. After receiving some key skills for the low post, Moni T, Cooper Dickie and Rewa Takiari were unstoppable in the low post. Our guards were much better this week in limiting their turnovers which allowed the team to get some shots off.

We took the lead into the halftime break for the first time this season after a mix of transition baskets and half court offense. Tighter defensive presence and rebounding were the key instructions and soon enough, the starting five extended our lead to 7 points. Mt Carmel soon responded with some up-tempo defense and they took the lead heading into the final 5 minutes of the game.

We composed ourselves and on the back of Cooper and Rewa, JTCC made some key buckets to keep pur opposition at bay.

Monster efforts this week by Cooper and Rewa.

Cooper Dickie - 4/6 shooting, 1/10 ft, 14 rebounds 2 blocks

Rewa Takiari - 3/7 shooting, 3/9 ft, 15 rebounds, 4 blocks.

Great improvements this week by Thomas Elliot, Deng Deng and Ayrton Da Silva.

LOST 8-41 vs MCCC

Well, what a game! You cannot fault the tenacity of these young ladies. They are tough, resilient, and approach the game with class. It was a tough day out today. Mount Carmel brought their A game and let our girls know it. Obviously some serious players who meant business. We went in at halftime 0-22, but our girls were not rattled. Mount Carmel coach, to her credit, offered to end the game there and just play for kicks, but our girls wouldn’t have it. The girls played out the rest of the game with a fighting spirit and an attitude to be proud of. They were playing hard AND having fun!! Finishing 8-41, the game was played with such positivity. Congratulations to our girls for never giving up. Awesome effort!!

Another classic performance from none other than the senior John Therry boys ensured another crushing victory. THAC started well, however the sheer physical dominance pushed them out of the game. The middle of the field consisted of some awesome performances from Tonna, Finn, Jerome, Ben and Zac. They were then supported by our strong outside backs Riley, Corey and Aiden. Noah and Mitch led the way playing some simple eyes up footy which led to easy points. Defence was our strongpoint, conceding 0 points and great contact from Roger and Cooper.

U16s Girl Rugby League DIV 1

Won 24-16

Today the girls rugby league took on St Pats  for round 3 of the misa competition, it was a very close and high intensity game but the team came away with a 6-4 win, continuing their undefeated run. There was a lot of hard work from individual players and the team as a whole with solid performances from all. MVP this week was very deserving and went to Bridget Shearer who lead the team in both defence and attack, scoring 4 tries.

11/12 Boys Soccer

Won 2-1 vs MAG

3 points, 2 scored, 1 conceded. Another win against a Magdalene side that seemed a little bit weaker than previous years but a well deserved result none the less. The lads were instructed to play narrower in the middle of the park with a 4-5-1 system in place. Wingers were sitting closer to midfield to shut down any space for the opponents to play into and allowed for short sharp passes to control the game. Backline was rock solid - luckily Ryano made the bus this week to slot in at RB.

Great movement from Luke to earn a well deserved goal after breaking through the back line from a Xavier through ball. Luke carried the ball a few yards to place the ball into the back of the net, a cool, calm finish. A 40 yard volley into the top right hand corner levelled the game at 1-1 and early in the second half winger / stand in goal keeper Coby scored a header off a corner. Hunter stood in as GK and produced a match winning catch at the end of the game to ensure the 3 points. Back even stronger next week.

Win 17-10 vs THAC

Our second game of the season saw the JT girls take the court as a strong and united team. More familiar working with each other saw clear communication, strong passing and smooth feeding to our shooters which lead to a 17-10 win against Thomas Hassall. The team were stoked with their win, and feeling fired up for next week! 

We had a clear MVP this week, Samara Vaga.

Won 67-49 vs MCCC

In a tight game against Mount Carmel, our senior girls' indoor cricket team emerged victorious, prevailing with a score of 67-49. It was a closely contested match that kept both sides interested until the last over. A special thanks to our new recruits Tiara, Moana and Angelica, who filled in for our injured and absent teammates.

A game where we dominated possession and field position, our passes were smooth and we worked together as a team. We had plenty of shots on goal and started to develop our set piece plays. A great run by Travis from halfway beating several players before slotting a goal was the difference.

7-9 Mixed Frisbee

Lost 20-12 vs MCCC

Tough game for the John Therry Frisbee team today. JT were first to score however Mt Carmel were quick to counter and ended up on top at half time. John Therry were determined to close that gap and came out in the second half strong. Despite our best efforts and impressive attack, our defence let us down and we walked away with a 12-20 loss. Special shout-out to Sienna who scored four goals and Jazwyn who scored two.

Our JT boys came up against MAS in a closely fought game. We batted first and struggled early on, however, we made a resurgence in the second innings and managed to go up 5-4. Going into the last innings, we were full of confidence but some poor ball handling cost us in the end.

vs Thomas Hassall

The boys started Round 2 of their MISA season and we were up against Thomas Hassall, the only team to defeat us in Round 1. The boys have trained well over the past few weeks and have learned key skills in offense and defense to promote individual and team success. This was on show today. The team still take verbal instructions too literally. I ask them to make their shots count, so they take less shots, but true to word, they make them.

14/23 field goals in the first half, multiple rebounds, assists and block shots still saw JTCC lead by 1 point at the break. A few careless passes and dribbles turned into easy opposition fast break lay-ups and THAC were still in the game.

We refined our team goals and in the second half, some great team basketball played. Deng Deng was huge at both ends of the court today along with Rewa and Cooper once again.

Cooper - 6/7 fg, 12 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists

Rewa - 7/9 fg, 1/1 3pt,  17 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 block

Coming off a win from last week the Year 11/12 netball team came in hopeful to defeat St Pats today. Despite their best efforts, the speed and height of the other team for the best of us today. The team tried their absolute best despite a 42-13 loss. Well done to our pocket rocket Centre player Grace O’Reilly who is the MVP this week

A great performance was put on by the U16 Girls from Magdalene and John Therry. It was a physical back and forth game with wonderful sportsmanship  shown by both teams. Isabella Grace-Marshall and Alexis Paulo have proven themselves today with their best games this season.

The girls played well with 7 players and no reserves

For 5 minutes of the game they played with 6 players due to a slight ankle injury

The score was 7 - 6,  we suffered a loss that would have been a draw if the referee didn't allow the drop ball a try which the team was telling him. 

I would like to give them all MVP of the game but I have to chose 1 player which goes to Ruby Marks

Lost 1-0 vs MCCC

The score should read 6-1 but instead it reads 0-1.

The squad stepped up today in a time with 5 players out. The game could have been wrapped up earlier if our shots were placed either side of the opposition goal keepers feet, often the shots ending directed at him in his hands or the ball ended up in the Nun’s garden. In attack we were sharp but lacked that finish. Midfield kept the ball moving and as a squad OPTA data would have suggested close to 85% possession. Defensively we were solid and a lofted cross over the keeper into the goal at the end of the game took the 3 points away from us. I don’t like to use the word fluke, but nothing else comes to mind.

The Girls should be proud of their effort against Magdalene College. Strong bowling from Madeline S. kept the opposition to a total of 48 runs, the John Therry Girls breezed past this with their first 3 sets of batters. The total score ended in a whopping 86 runs to 48, with Madeline S. and Grace T tying with 15 runs a piece. The JTCC Senior Girls Cricket team continue their long running win streak.

A bit of a scrappy game today, but once they got in front they never looked back. Amazing goals from Travis and Sully. Man of the match performance from Harrison Clinch in goals, swatting away a determined opposition.

Unfortunate loss for our John therry frisbee team who fought hard against Magdalene. Despite Magdalene’s convincing win over mount Carmel in round 2 who were victorious against us last week, John Therry went in with their heads high. Magdalene took the lead early on and John Therry was able to keep their lead marginal throughout the entirety of the game until a controversial final goal from Magdalene. Well done to Ava, Sienna and Jeshua for their goals and special thanks to Alice for filling in. Final score 10-5. Congratulations to this weeks MVP Jeshua.

JT batted first in their match against Magdalene and started very strong getting the first 5 batters home. We then fielded well to restrict Magdalene to just 2 runs, before having two big batting collapses consecutively which put us under immense pressure. In the final innings we were only ahead by one and with bases loaded the game was all but over. A spectacular double play secured the 5-4 win by JT.
