Year 9 Photography and Digital Media Excursion 2023.
On Thursday April 27th, the Year 9 PDM class went into Sydney as part of their 'Shapes and Shadows' unit of work. They travelled by train to Milsons Point, then walked around Jeffrey St. Wharf and Luna Park. From there, they caught a ferry to Barangaroo, walked to Wynyard station, and Observatory Hill for lunch. Then onward up to the Sydney Harbour Bridge Pylon for a bird’s eye view of the harbour, then through the historical Rocks precinct and finishing at Circular Quay.
The students’ Photographic challenge included not just taking photographs but making photographs with the school’s DSLR cameras. The themes included Reflection, Symmetry and Repetition, Shadows, Train station, view from high up, Frame within a frame, Coffee Shop, Something Red, Looking up, Architecture, Rule of Thirds, Texture, Fashion, Underground walkways and Leading lines. These photographs become part of the students first Assessment task that already includes analogue photography; photograms, cyanotypes and prof sheets all created in our school darkroom. Thank you to all the students on their exemplary behaviour and enthusiastic participation for this event. A special thank you to Mrs. Hume who accompanied us on the excursion on the day. Her knowledge and support was invaluable.
