PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

This Sunday marks the halfway mark of the Sundays of Lent leading to Easter and is known as Laetare Sunday, meaning rejoice. As we come closer to the resurrection of Christ we rejoice that our Lentern journey is halfway over, and recommit to fasting, almsgiving and prayer. Today being St Patrick's day we also celebrate the gift of St Patrick who worked so powerfully spreading the Gospel.

Attendance

John Therry attendance rate as at Friday 17th March - 84%

In the last newsletter I talked about the importance of attendane and punctuality as a habit that has a large impact on school performance and beyond school in the world of work. I have included our current attendance data at the moment showing our overall attendance rate. This averages around 84% and across a year would mean missing 6 weeks of school. It is almost impossible to acheive our potential missing so much learning so our challenge remains to improve this attendance rate, and I will continue to update this in future newsletters.

How is your child's attendance rate and do you need support with this? Our pastoral team are here to help and we can support your child if there are some barriers to school attendance.

All parents and carers are invited to attend our P & F meeting being held on Tuesday 21st March at 6:30pm in our staff common room. We will discuss current happenings at John Therry and look at ways to allocate P & F funds to benefit students. We hope to see you there.

A reminder that Enrolment Applications are due on 31st March 2023. Last year we had a number of siblings almost miss out on a place as they had not completed an application on time and they relied on students withdrawing to get a place at John Therry. Siblings are one of our highest priorities for enrolment, but applications must be received on time for us to be able to use this. Packages are available at the front office or on our school webpage.

John Therry Strategic Planning

John Therry is undergoing a significant cyclic inquiry review this year as part of a broader Diocesan approach to school planning. The Lighting the Way plan below outlines the ambitions of the Diocese. We as a school commnunity will be seeking parent feedback on the coming months to assist our planning that will guide the next 4 years at John Therry. Student and parent voice will be very important in determining our plans so we encourage you to complete this survey when it arrives.
